Heat, Electricity & Water

In India some states have privilege to experience five weather’s in a year namely summer, winter, rainy, spring and autumn but some states get all the weather’s at it’s extreme making life uncomfortable and one of such state is Punjab whose Amritsar district in this year itself faced worst winter and summer season and recorded highest reading of both weather’s in it’s history book and it’s the biggest example of natural havoc created by global warming around us as in last winter season mercury reading touches 1 degree Celsius which counts coldest in plain of northern India now in summer season temperature rose to 45 degree Celsius which again is highest in the history of Amritsar and in rainy season some districts of Punjab had experienced heavy down pour in their history and Hoshiarpur is one of the such district when last year in the month of August heavy rain disrupt normal life for three to four days but along with heavy rain residents of Hoshiarpur district count heavy financially losses as rain water entered in their houses’ and water logged level were five to seven feet height which spoils their goods like refrigerators, Television Sets’, bikes, clothes stored in Almira, wooden furniture, kitchen utensils ,appliances, beds infect everything which were below six feet level .
Summer season residents of Punjab have to face some additional problems which make it worst to live life normally and it is created by increase in demand of power because of running of additional appliances which consume lot of power like coolers, Air conditioner's, fans plus unstoppable construction of residential houses, factories, shops, offices and malls with every passing time all it leads to put pressure on increase in demand of power but because of zero percent efforts to increase power generation from government side and thus Punjab State Electricity board coping with problem of demand and supply with power cuts and power cuts are also of such a nature that despite advertisement's published in the newspapers relating to power cuts Punjab State Electricity Boards never able to justified timings of power cuts published in newspapers and increase the timings of power cuts without prior notice making uncomfortable residents of Punjab, this year on 10th June in press release Punjab State Electricity Board announced power cuts of four hours in all the districts of Punjab at different timings but on very first day it was power cut of five to six hours then gradually they increase the load shedding to 12 to 14 hours without any notice without any schedule timings and no body was sure about power supply and cuts schedule which made all the categories of consumer to come on road and protest against the Punjab State Electricity Boards and God forbid there was rumour in the air that if next seven to ten days pass on without rain then chances are that there will be black out in Punjab that’s not only woe of residents of Punjab as along with power cuts there was shortage of water in the taps of Municipal Committees and Corporation's . The reason was as per government press release rainy season is delay across India and temperature for the first time in lot of part touch 42 to 46 degree Celsius and reservoir’s water level start dipping so it was three level problem faced by residents rain, electricity and water, Then Punjab Government realising the worst time taken imitative and declared some harsh steps like no street lights and sign boards after 11 p.m., Air Conditioner's not allowed to use in government offices ,timings of Government offices reschedule from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. to 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and asked private shops to close after 7.30 p.m. other wise strict action will be taken against failure of these orders. Thanks God that Meteorology department declared that nothing to feel panic about rain as monsoon will be activated in Indian and within next two to three days there will be rain across India, and yesterday and today here in Punjab there is rain and power supply which was uncontrolled till date from two days now Punjab residents get some stable supply and along with it supply of water normal plus biggest relief from scorching heat ,but as per stats of Punjab state electricity board demand this time was almost touch the figure of 2000 MW and from all sources they were able to touch power generation figure to 1700 MW so the board was facing shortage of approximately 300 MW which they get rid through power cuts but time has come for government to take some steps to increase the power generation instead of depending on power cuts because even power cuts can’t be a correct solution of increasing demand as with every passing time demand will rise courtesy boom in economy which need interrupt power supply because lot of factories, offices ,malls ,big stores, residential houses ,colonies and flats adds and government must look for power expansion plan before the power demand make state stranded as when government find drastic shortage of power they also imposed three days holidays on some factories and if industries not allowed to run at its full capacity then it will effect on government’s exchequer below are some steps which should be taken without delay by government along with expansion in power generation
• Government and Board should reconsider it’s decision to give free supply to electricity employee, farmers and some weaker sections of residents as this cost is bear by Punjab state electricity board on generation but not get it even basic cost back which is one of the major reason of Punjab State Electricity Board’s losses or government reimburse to Board free electricity.
• Power theft by some consumers must be handled with strong punishment financially and prison.
• In state Government must ban use of tubes and bulbs and make it mandatory use of Compact florescent bulb (CFL) which are not only power efficient but also release more power then conventional lights.
• Make it mandatory sale of Electrical, electronics devices which have stars recommended by Bureau of Efficient Energy (BEE) .
• Working hours of offices’ should change in summer season and follow by every office strictly.
• Mandatory use of Solar Power in government offices up to 50 percent of their total consumption and newly constructed every building must use 50 percent of consumption through solar energy.
Above coded are appear harsh steps in democratic set up but considering the problem and increasing gap of demand and supply until and unless supply not cross surplus these steps are necessities of time and everybody should contribute without raising the finger towards other as it’s demand of time.
