Anti Tobacco Day

Every year on 31st May, World observe Anti Tobacco day, but using tobacco by human beings in any form whether through cigarettes or directly (chewing), it the cause of diseases like Cancer of mouth, lungs, throat; heart diseases, even pregnant women who smoke, delivers 3 million handicap kids, tobacco is so much harmful in any form that celebrating one day is not enough and it will not prove desire results by hosting seminars on that day and delivering lectures by doctors, on to tobacco effects to present public in the seminars. To get result, if society is sincere then by some innovative movements, stringent law and heavy punishment on both categories of persons user and producers of tobacco products like steeply increase price by reshuffling tax slabs, heavy fine on to user and no doubt on the way it will have to face obstacles from tobacco lobby.
Indian Government on 2nd October, 2008 ban on smoking in public places like restaurants, Bus Stands, Railway Stations, Hospitals and if anybody found guilty violating the law then he/she will be charge with fine of two hundred rupees, but as per some intellectuals minimal fine is not enough to keep citizen away from smoking, below coded some measures can make anti tobacco campaign successful –
  • Cigarettes and Tobacco products should impose with heavy tax duty from present, to three to four fold more, so that prices of tobacco products increase sharply.
  • Children below the age of 18 should not allow to use tobacco products, if found guilty then they should be punish with heavy cash fine.
  • Punishment of using tobacco products in public places should be fine with minimum 5,000 rupees and also add provision of non bail able jail of some days.
  • Ban on the advertisement of tobacco products in print and electronics media.
  • Ban of selling tobacco products, around two kilometer radius of educational institutions.
  • Public figures especially cricketers and actors should use tobacco products with cautiously, especially when the camera’s eye are on, its example is that when IPL season III ,was under proceedings, then a picture publish of Shane Warn smoking, as for cricketers and bollywood stars people in India are crazy, so they should be beware while smoking.
Country like India, if a person becomes victim of disease, because of using tobacco, then cost of treatment is so much costly that it is not affordable by average Indian, as in India more then seventy five percent people are living without health insurance. To make awareness among user, effect on to body, then documentary or short film of ten minutes produce by heath ministry, and make it mandatory for electronics channels to air it throughout day minimum six times after the gap of four hours in a day, which should have victim of tobacco user as central character.
