India celebrates Consumer week which begin from 24 December to 30 December every year, which is dedicated to consumer and government try to educate common people who are not aware about the law which exit for the benefit of consumer to protect them from exploitation by Companies, cheating by dealer by false commitment and it cover every type of service in short, The provision of this act cover Products and Services, and under products category it comes anything produce or manufactured and it was sold by retailer or wholesaler to the customers, Services can be related to Transport,
Telephone, Electricity, Banks, Medical treatment etc.etc to understand easily one can say Services provided by professionals, Governments or private Organizations. This year consumer protection day has subject ‘consumer keep alert and be safe’ during this period of one week there will be seminar,
Demonstrations and meetings so that consumer should be make aware towards there rights. In Schools, Colleges and educational institutions poster making and quiz program will be hosted relating to Consumer day.
The Consumer Protection Act,1986 ( here in after to be referred to a the ACT ) ,it protect the right of consumer and have safety from the exploration of service provider if he cheat the customer, and it has verdict for every petition within 90 days ,and its not always that there should be in writing proof like bill or any written document by the service provider, even without any written proof consumer can file a case but there should be evidence of another customer who present at the time of purchasing his statement is also acceptable, but at the same time it has provision also for if a consumer file a false case on to any service provider and it proves that petition was false ,then consumer can be fined up to ten thousands rupees maximum. To make available simple, fast and economical access to law Government has set up redressal forum at District, State and National level. Right now there are 604 District level,35State level Forums and having National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission as its apex body whose office is situated at janpath bhawan,A wing,5th floor,Janpath,New Delhi.
The District forum is headed by the person who is eligible to be appointed as a District Judge and state commission s are headed by a judge of high court. National Commission was comes into effect in the year 1988 and it can be headed by only sitting or retire judge of Supreme Court of India.

Amount of Rs 1 to 5 Lakhs 200 Rs
Rs 5 to 10 Lakhs 400 Rs
Rs.10 to 20 Lakhs 500 Rs
and complaint in writing can be filed in different forums are as follow
District Consumer Forum upto 20 Lakhs,
State Commission upto 1 crores,
National Commission above One Crores
The Registry of the National Commission, is on 7th Floor, ‘B’ Wing, Janpath Bhawan, Janpath, New Delhi which remains open on all working days except Sundays, Saturdays and Central Govt. holidays. For any enquiry from the Registry of the National Commission, one can contact on Telephone Nos. 011-23712109, 23712459, 23389248 and Fax No. 23712456. The filing timings are from 10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. Every matter filed with the Registry in person is listed on 7th day of its filing for admission before the National Commission. Functioning of District Forum, State Commission and National Commission is consumer friendly, and thus consumer can file complaint and can address arguments in person. In genuine cases where the parties are unable to engage the services of an advocate Bar Association of NCDRC also provides legal aid to needy.
