Punjab has industrial hub in the districts of Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. On 26th May,2011 Commissioner of Jalandhar Division Mr. Sucha Ram Ladhar had invited Industrialists of Jalandhar district to discuss the problem of polluted water that goes into the Kala Sandhiya Drain from different units based in Jalandhar, at district administrative complex, along with industrialists, administrative officers’ and Sant Baldev Singh Sinchewal were also present in the meeting, but before dialogue reach towards any positive direction, words of commissioner furious present representatives of industrialists and in response to it they announced one day strike on 27th May,2011 by every units of Jalandhar and on 27th May,2011 not only every industrial unit of Jalandhar were closed but they also hold rally and did protest at company bagh chownk, Jalandhar and they not only demand transfer of Mr. Sucha Ram Ladhar till 7th June,2011 but also declared that neither pollution team nor police party will allow to enter any industrial unit of district plus have given ultimatum to the state government. On this occasion when former cabinet minister Mr. Manoranjan Kalia reached to support the protest of industrialists, then head of Byopaar Sena Punjab Mr. Ravender Dhir opposed it and said Mr. Kalia was industry minister for more then four years of Punjab state, what did he do for the welfare of industry, it is the struggle of industries not a stage to do politics. As per reports more then 4,000 units of Jalandhar were shut down and declared if pollution team try to enter any unit then they will oppose it collectively. On the other hand while talking to media persons at his residence Mr. Sucha Ram Ladhar Commissioner, Jalandhar division said despite we are facing protest from industrial unit of Jalandhar on to our step of checking the industries by our administration team of industrial units, administration will keep on doing its work. He had meeting with pollution control board and Administration Corporation. Committee is constituted under the chairmanship of ADC Jalandhar Mr. Gurpreet Singh Khera and he will collect water samples of factories he will accompany by pollution control board which will send collected water sample to lab for investigation. He appeal to the industrialists to avoid creating problem for officials to do there duties as failing of it they can face legal action from authorities. While giving information on to checking of water which released by industrial units with the assistance from district corporation which will make arrangement to puncture the pipe so that water release by any unit can be immediately tested, its cost will be borne by the corporation for constructing special chambers and work of these chambers will be completed in three weeks time. He added that industrial units checking will continue and water samples reports will be available in ten days time, units which found responsible of spreading pollution will face legal action under section 133.
Right now situation is very tense and both parties are stick on to there words, nobody appears in flexible mood plus both have announced there next strategy, it will be interesting to see who have final words to say on to this issue.
