Government Sector loosing its Shine ?

To give public best medical facilities at an affordable price, government is running Primary Health Centers, Dispensaries and Civil Hospitals at village and district level. Recently in Punjab State, Punjab’s health and welfare department considering the severe shortage of specialists in one of the three regions of Punjab that is Malwa and other two are Doaba and Majha, department gone through the basic formalities of appointing specialists Doctors , few months back, in spite of issuing appointment letters to the selected candidates but till date only fifty percent have shown interest and join the service rest are delaying by one reason or another, all this is giving births to score of speculations like –
  • Selected Candidates wants there appointment or location of work at there home town or surrounding areas, but not with some distance.
  • Selected Candidates avoiding to join the Malwa region of the state, why it is so? Well its correct explanation is lies with the candidates only, which are eschewing to join.
  • Some Doctors or selected candidates are well settled courtesy private practice, so for them to join government offer it will make big dent in there earnings, and which they do not want to loose
  • Private Hospitals can give better offers to efficient candidates then they will get as government employees or in simple words private hospitals are giving handsome package compare to government hospitals.
Considering the shortage of specialist Doctors at various level of government health centers, Punjab state’s Punjab Health and family welfare department start process to recruit one hundred specialists doctors which have to be appointed in the Malwa region of the state, few months ago letters of appointment issue to the selected candidates which were total one hundred in numbers and they were in the categories of –
  • Gynecologists
  • Pediatricians
  • Forensic experts
  • Medicine specialists
but out of one hundred surprisingly half had shown interest to join and rest are till date skipping to join the service which is now quite a long period, department has made mind to fill the void vacancies of specialists doctors with the waiting list candidates, because waiting further for selected candidates to join government is simply wastage of time. As per words of Punjab Health and family welfare director Doctor J.P.Singh told to the media persons because of severe shortage of medical experts in the Malwa region government has issued appointment letters to one hundred specialists doctors after they clear all the formalities required into there appointment and they were specialists of different categories like- Gynecologists, Pediatricians, Forensic experts, Medicine specialists, because state’s department feel shortage of specialists doctors at hospitals, dispensaries and primary health centers in the Malwa region, but half the numbers of selected doctors are delaying the offers or specifically they are not interested. He further adds that government’s priority is Malwa region because there are shortage of doctors and now as they are delaying to join the offer service now we have left with no other options but to send letters to waiting list candidates as it is waste of time to wait for them, reason can be specialists doctors wants there posting in there home town or surrounding areas, may be they are doing private practice so they are not interested for Malwa region, but some other have different opinion as far doctors not joining the offer that is private hospitals offerings are much more lucrative then government department, whatever the reason may be but one thing is quite sure that perhaps government offerings start loosing its shine compare to private establishments, and its not that only medical arena is sufferer but every area where ever there is private entity, public prefer it first and government is there second choice.
In the era of competition when public has choice to select then they opt or there first priority is for private sector, so government to compete with private sector need to upgrade there facilities just level of private if they cant march ahead of private.
