Lokpal Bill

Anna Hazare, on April 8th went on fast unto death, in demand for Jan lokpal bill, which should have teeth, instead of government lokpal bill, moreover it was not pass by parliament, despite eight time presented in the house. Government accepted all his demand and constitutes committee having five members each from civil society and government side, and they are –
Government side members –
  • Kapil Sibbal
  • Pranab Mukherjee
  • P. Chidambaram
  • Salman Khurshid
  • Veerapaa Moily
Civil Society members  –
  • Anna Hazare
  • Arvind Kezriwal
  • Shanti Bhushan
  • Prashant Bhushan
  • Subash Hegde
What is Lokpal ?
Lokpal will be independent authority to take action against any domain government servant if against him/her complaint filed by anybody of corruption or misconduct of his/her duty. To check anybody does not files complaints against any government servant baseless it will be supported by provision for strong action and fine, lokpal bill will be with power of giving its verdict of punishment to the tainted persons.
Joint committee’s responsibility is to prepare the draft of lokpal bill before 30th June,2011, through the process of meetings between both the sides and till date eight meetings held on to and on 21st June final meeting will held; civil society team skip sixth meeting in protest against government action to crush protest of Baba Ramdev by force, hence giving their support Anna Hazare protest of one day, from fifth meeting onwards it was seen that once the meeting ends of joint drafting committee, both sides try to express their side of story to the public through press meetings, while listening them it appears that civil society proposals are not accepted by government side and they argue on to their lot of proposal’s, hence as per civil society members work of forming draft is not done even twenty percent, after seventh meeting which was held for more then two and half hours, immediately both side held press conference within span of two hours and takes media questions, after hearing both press conferences’ its sum up was that only few days left for 30th June but both sides have many differences and speculations are in the air that chances are that in the house two versions will be present in the house as civil society members are accusing government that they don’t listen civil society members and dictate their terms and on other hand government members said if we discuss with them on to their points they blame that we are against them or against strong lokpal bill.
Civil society members want that Prime Minister of the country and judiciary should also comes under the lokpal bill, and CBI should comes under the lokpal instead of government, but government is against it, so both are blaming each other through media.
Instead of both presenting their views to the public through media its better that meetings of lokpal drafting committee should be televise(which is demand of civil society members also, but government is not accepting it. It will be convenient for both the parties that instead of letting public know through media they should allow to judge themselves what happen in the meeting? Who is in favour of strong bill? If they have meeting in good environment? In today’s era technology is accessible easily by everyone then what is wrong to share with public especially if it is democracy and in a democratic set up public has right to get information what government is doing?
Anna Hazare has warn the government that if bill was not present in the house of monsoon session as per their demands then from 16th August,2011 he will start his protest again, he is ready for bullets also if government try to curb his campaign like Baba Ramdev, so right now dust of uncertainty is flowing high in the environment of India as far lokpal bill is concern and how it will settle down nobody is sure and its answer will unfold in coming days and before this it is quite clear that there is big rift between government and civil society members on to the lokpal bill proposals.
