Three Indian Sports emerges, from nowhere, to proud every sports lover of this country, during Beijing Olympics and these sports were Shooting, Boxing and Wrestling.Sportsmen hit the news lines by wining medals, first time, in the history of Indian Olympics in these sports plus it was first time by individual’s , Indians not known other then hockey in Olympics, because only in hockey sports India is medal holder, but in Beijing Olympics Indian fails to qualify in hockey sports, that’s why Indian had not much interest to watch or follow Beijing Olympics, but until and unless beginning of these sports events and then people were crazy to watch the Olympics.
On 16th May, 2010 Asian Wrestling Championship concluded at New Delhi. India won total seven medals, including two gold medals, which is their best performance in Asian Wrestling Competition, as during Patya, Thailand, Indian wrestlers won six medals. The details of proud winner wrestlers are –
- Narsing Yadav (74 Kilogram) Free Style-Gold Medal
- Sushil Kumar(66 Kilogram) free Style- Gold Medal
- Rajender Kumar(55 Kilogram) Greco Roman Style –Silver Medal
- Alka Tomar(59 Kilogram) Woman- Bronze Medal
- Suman Kundu(63 Kilogram) Woman- Bronze Medal
- Sunil Kumar(66Kilogram)Greco roman Style-Bronze Medal
- Ravender Singh(60 Kilogram)Greco roman Style-Bronze Medal
on concluding day, at Chatersal stadium, decision of three category of 60 Kilogram, 74 Kilogram and 96 kilogram in Greco Roman style had to settle down and proudly for India in all the three categories, three Indian wrestler Ravender, Sanjay and Ashok Kumar were in the race for Bronze medals, but unfortunately other then Ravender both Sanjay and Ashok fails to deliver their best and not able to won matches and medals, but despite Indian improving their performances’ at the international level, wrestling competition not get much coverage from media and even people of the country not give importance to the Asian Wrestling Championship in which best Indian performance deliver by Indians, on the contrary, cricket is so much popular among media and public that only they cover everything on the field much before, start of the game, but off the filed also they give same aggressive approach, its example is that in T20 World cup, just held in West Indies, Indian Cricket team out of the tournament after loosing all their super eight matches, but after defeat lot of cricketers involve in brawl at pub, news cover by media with great importance, it gives feel cricket is only sports in the country.
If every sport in the country gets as much facility as cricket gets like funds, Infrastructure of international level & training, then there is no doubt why not other sportsman perform on the ground better than international players. Despite best performance in Asian Wrestling championship and held in the capital of country gets poor response, which is not good for any sports as every sports for its growth need support of its countryman, otherwise it will lost its shine from the heart and mind of aspiring youth; then corporate and media which are main source of money and growth of any sports, will avoid to stand behind the game.
