Makar Sakranti

Today is Makar Sakranti and on this day Lord Sun is worship by people. Makar Sakranti is celebrated in north India when Sun enters in Capricorn sign as its belief that this movement of planets is very auspicious for all the sign and it gives prosperity to every sign. On this day other then worship of Sun people take holy dip in rivers especially if possible in Ganga otherwise they sprinkle Ganga water on there body, donate as per there capacity of sesame black or sesame white, Wives spent day having fast for long life of there husband, from today onwards it’s the beginning of long days and small nights and also beginning for end of cold weather, people also celebrates this festive day by flying kites. On the Makar Sakranti day Sesame has very much importance not only from religious point of view but also sesame is effective from medical point of view as this festive day comes in cold weather and sesame being in the family which belongs to the category of hot and gives warmth to the body simply by eating in any form that’s why taking stuff made from sesame is good for body, as in the cold season there is always danger for body to be infected by cold because Sun’s ray are not as powerful as they are during winter season and sesame reduce this danger also as it balance body temperature. Today is Ganesh Chaturthi also and combination of Makar Sakranti and Ganesh Chaturthi create very good calculation from astrological point as Sakranti is related to Lord Sun and Ganesh Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesh .Sun signs movements to Capricorn effect all the signs but combination with Ganesh Chaturthi it become the period of beneficial to all the signs plus also treated both combination as ending of all the bad effect of martial life so admitted best fast.
Today in southern part of India especially Tamilnadu and Andra Pradesh people celebrates the Pongal festival and it’s celebrated at harvest time and celebrates just to thanks rain and sun for bestowing prosperity through crop which is ready for harvesting. People in villages buy new clothes and wear them for this particular day. It is as per belief of people is 1000 years old. Pongal is one of the biggest festival in Tamilnadu and state Government announced 3 to 4 days of holidays.
So today being the day of festivals throughout India with different name people are celebrating as being its there fundamental right to celebrates festivals as per tradition and despite the wave in the mind of some percent of people of western culture there is very large population who still enjoy every festival whether its regional level or national with zeal and fervour.Congrates to each and very individual of this country and may this day bring everybody prosperity and happiness.
