On 4th Feb,2012 auction
of players held for the fifth edition of IPL, total 122 players were available
for the auction and they were from all around the cricket playing nations
except Pakistan citizens but in this edition two Pakistan origin players were
also part of auction and they had to purchased by nine franchisees’ as one of
the franchise of IPL by name Kochi Tusker, Kerala was suspended from the lucrative
cricket league of the world. In this auction two players were sold multifold
from their base price and they were Ravindra Jadeja (India)
and Mahela Jayawardene (Sri
Lanka) –
- Ravindra Jadeja – Base Price 100,000 US Dollars –Sold 2,000,000 US Dollars- Chennai Super Kings.
- Mahela Jayawardene – Base Price 300,000 US Dollars – Sold 1,400,000 US Dollars – Delhi Daredevils
It is interesting here to code that auction of Ravindra
Jadeja was tied at the maximum reserve price of a player that is 20,00,000 US
Dollars between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Charges, then as per rules both
parties asked for secret bid for Ravindra Jadeja and it was won by Chennai
Super Kings, but Jadeja will get only 9,50,000 US Dolloars rest amount along
with secret bid amount by CSK will goes to the kitty of BCCI, below is the list

In the morning at the time of news of IPL Auction V,
along with it one news relating to Indian Cricket also catches the eyes of
cricket lovers of India which was that Sahara India breaks its sponsorship with
team India which had relations with team India as sponsor from past eleven long
years and their latest contract with team India they had renewed on 31st
July,2010 which was valid till 31st December,2013. As per terms Sahara India was paying 303.4
million rupees for every Test match, One Day and T20. As per information
available to media Sahara India had score of differences’ with BCCI, today
Sahara India announced not only cancellation of its sponsorship with team India
but also declared they are no more interested to continue as franchisee of Pune
Warriors, below coded are major issues’ which led to Sahara India scrap all its
ties with cricket –
- Inclusion of Chris Gayle in the Royal Bangalore had objection to few franchisees’ of IPL and Sahara was one of them, Mumbai Indians gets permission to play with one extra foreign player due to injuries but Pune Warriors was not allowed to follow the same, so there was two set of rules for franchisees’.
- Pune Warriors purchase Saurav Ganguly for 4 lakhs US Dollars, and as Yuvraj is not physical fit and for his replacement there proposal to add his price in their kitty at the time of auction was denied by BCCI.
- BCCI keep on denying their request of open auction which was meant for every franchisee get level playing field , BCCI rejects it on the ground of strong terms that are placed.
- Sahara India was disqualify from the auction in the year 2008 due to small technical discrepancies thus even their bid was not open, and last year total 94 matches were scheduled to played between ten franchisees’ but it reduced to 74 matches. Request of Sahara India to return additional money was refuse and they get answer from BCCI of strong terms.
So right now both sides are in no mood to step back
from their respective positions as
during press conference of IPL auction V when question asked from BCCI
representatives about Sahara India’s decision to break its ties with cricket,
reply of it came that they have not received anything from Sahara India in
writing so they are not in position to reply on that, plus if Sahara India want
to exit, then it is their wish, but show must go on. In few days time it will
be interesting to see how this story take final shape.
